Description: Information and communications technology (ICT) has been increasingly used at many universities in Vietnam with a view to transforming the quality of teaching and learning. However, little research has been done regarding how ICT is currently used in teaching by language lecturers as well as what possibly prevents them from applying ICT. In this conference paper we investigate the current situation of ICT integration into foreign language teaching in Vietnam. We present our case study at Hanoi University (HANU), a leading university in the North of Vietnam in the area of foreign languages training. Data were collected from a survey with 222 language lecturers and from interviews with 43 participants inclusive of HANU senior leadership, teaching staff and ICT experts. The results of data analysis have shed light into lecturer perspectives on: i) current practice of ICT use in language teaching, ii) perceived barriers to ICT use, and iii) lecturers’ suggestions for better ICT uptake in the future.
