Les Youie (OAM) Collection

Les Youie, OAM, was Secretary of the Young Chinese League from 1956 to 1966 and then Vice President in 1971 and 1973. He was elected as Life Member of the League in 1965 and on 26 January 2007 was conferred with the Medal of the Order of Australia for his involvement, not only with the Young Chinese League (YCL), but also with the Moomba Youth Band Association Inc (now the Australian Youth Band Association October 2008) and a number of other organisations. He was also made the first life member of the Moomba Youth Band Association in September 1989. During his involvement with the YCL he wrote the YCL newsletter, usually produced monthly. A compilation of some of the material held by Les Youie is published here to assist those researching Chinese-Australian history. Original documents have been donated to the Museum of Chinese Australian History (www.chinesemuseum.com.au) and are available for viewing by appointment.
