1633 Immigration Restriction Act 1901

The Immigration Restriction Act 1901 was the first substantive legislation passed by the newly formed Australian Federal government. This Act was amended and clarified in subsequent government documentation.

The Act provides information about the conditions under which a person is considered an illegal immigrant, information about the dictation test and about who can be exempted from the dication test including mention of certificates of exemption. The document also provides general information about the application of the Act.
